Easter Greeting
In Old Russia, it was the custom for Christians to greet one another on Easter
morning by saying, "Christ is Risen!", to which the other would reply,
"Indeed, He is Risen!" Maybe this could catch on again.
Easter Clues Hunt
If your kids are too old, or you'd rather not do an egg hunt, you might consider a Clues Hunt. Give your child a slip of paper with the first clue, such as "Look under the place where you lay your head to rest" (under his pillow). There he can find the next clue. Clues lead up to a surprise present. Use different colored slips of paper for different children, and pictures instead of words for pre-readers.
Easter Spelling
Write letters on spring-shaped cut-outs of construction paper (ducks, flowers, eggs, etc.). Hide the shapes. Give your child a slip of paper with a word on it, like "Spring" or "Resurrection". The child then looks for the letters and puts them in the correct order to find the words. If your child is older, put words to a Bible verse on the papers. Let the child find the words and put in order.
Jelly Bean Math
Have your child sort jelly beans by color. Then put into sets (sets of 2, sets of 5, etc.). Practice addition, subtraction and easy multiplication and division.
Midnight Egg Hunt
A new twist for older children: Hide Easter eggs in the dark, and let kids look for them with flashlights.
GROUP GAMES
Easter Math
Stuff plastic eggs as usual, with a small treat, but also add a slip of paper with a numeral on it in each egg. Hide eggs and set a limit on the number of eggs each child is allowed to find. At the end of the hunt, have children add up their numerals. The one with the highest sum wins a prize.
Capture the Eggs
Divide the group into two teams. Each team has four eggs (plastic or boiled). Each team lines their eggs up on the ground, then runs to the other side and tries to get the other team's eggs without getting tagged. If tagged, the player has to "freeze" until tagged by his own teammate. The first team to get all the eggs wins.
